when plans change....

Hello!
I realize that it's been quite quiet over here lately.....truth is I didn't have a computer for awhile! My hubby and I have always wanted a desktop computer. An opportunity came for us to sell our laptop, so we sold the laptop (which was our home computer) and ordered a desktop. While waiting for our computer to be shipped to us, I dreamed and planned and thought I had it all figured out. Plans changed...
I manufactured a small desk out of a table that was not currently being used and put it on the wall which I thought was the *perfect* spot for our new home office space....I was so wrong. This table was only a fraction of the size of the one I planned to build and it already made our living room/office space feel so so so cramped. Needless to say...I was beyond disappointed.

The tricky thing with our home is that all the rooms are being used for bedrooms. So the only way to have a home office area on the main level of our home was to incorporate it into the living room area...which did not work. Back to the drawing board. I had to figure out what I was willing to compromise on and what I was not. I decided that not putting the home office area in the basement was the line I was sticking too. The only other place I could think of to put it (for the time being) was our master bedroom. The part that disappointed me the most was that I had the corner set up to be a calming and relaxing place....somehow I wanted to keep that feeling but also make it functional for working. This is my before....
And after...
In order to maintain some of feeling that my other arrangement had, I tried to keep some of my favourite elements and add them into the office space.
This might be texture overload...but I absolutely love it! I kept this wool blanket with the chair, to add some warmth and because I absolutely love it. It is one of my favourite throws and I wanted to keep in my bedroom decor. The leather shag rug isn't quite big enough to fill the office and end of the bed space so I added a sheepskin rug. And honestly I love that too....it keeps my feet nice and warm while I'm working away! And lastly, my gold tree stump. This little side table which will probably serve as a place to stack my books, I absolutely adore...
Fresh lilacs from my bushes.....they smell so pretty and the colour is just amazing! I decided to keep the desk simple and understated....it's honestly just a piece of shelving board cut to size, sanded, and braced with two white brackets. So simple.
Working and researching for an upcoming project...
After working in here for a bit this afternoon, I am really loving this new little office area. I know that it won't be a permanent location, but for the time being it is our best option.
Do you have a place in your decor where you've had to compromise? Or plans have changed? It can be a tricky thing to figure out sometimes....I still really loved how I had it previously and am hoping I can design it that way again sometime in the future....but like I said, for the time being this is going to work!
Happy Wednesday everyone!
