shelving inspiration

Hello to you on this lovely Monday!

the brick house

We have an interesting week ahead over here....my hubby is busy teaching a course at a local college (I am so proud of him! And excited that he was given this opportunity!) so it's me and the kiddos holding down the fort. To me it seems like there's no better time to work on some projects (I might be totally crazy but we'll see how this goes)!

Here's a glimpse of some inspiration photos that have caught my eye...
This house, The Brick House was featured in the Design Sponge book (one of my favourites!) which is where I first saw both of these units.

Our living room space has been through numerous rearrangements and decorating ideas. Some that have been wonderful and some that have turned out as epic fails. But through all the changes, both my hubby and I have decided that we want simplicity. I actually really struggled with coming to this realization. Lots of the time I find myself caught in this tug-of-war between sparse and simplicity inspired design or filled (almost cluttered!) and eclectic design. Plus it seems I continually have new ideas coming through my head which makes it difficult to decipher what would actually be a good idea to try in our house and what can just stay an idea.

We actually went through a living room purge a couple weeks ago and I took everything out. Then, only put back what I actually love and want for this space. We realized that a shelving unit for our television and some decor is exactly what we need to bring some unity and organization to this space.  When I saw these photos, I knew this is the look I have been wanting. Simple and clean lines, and also some space to add personal items and bring the eclecticism to our space.

I love both of these shelving units. I'm loving the arrangement of the photo on the left, having two longer shelves and two shorter shelves. And for our budget, I think that the metal brackets (like the photo above) is going to work better. So I'm going to mesh both these photos and hopefully create something that will work for our space! Currently the wall is bare, I've patched up all the holes and scuffs and once babe #3 wakes up from nap time,  we're off to the paint store! My goal by the end of this week, is to show you our new shelving unit for our living room space.

Hope this beautiful Monday is treating you well!
