headboard diy
Happy Saturday!
This morning, my hubby and I were able to finish a project that I've been looking forward to doing for some time. With rearranging the kiddo's rooms, one of the items I wanted to add to Henry's bedroom was a headboard. I received some fabric from my mom quite awhile ago and I just didn't know what I was going to do with it until I was inspired by this headboard found in the Remodelista home decor book....
4. And then cut out the fabric to fit the headboard.
So here's the details!
Supplies:
- piece of wood cut to the size you need (ours was 42 1/2 inches wide x 14 1/2 inches high)
- foam
- fabric
- upholstery stapler
- heavy duty velcro strips (not shown)
1. First off, we measure the size of Henry's bed frame, and then I added an extra inch of length on each side so that the headboard would sit slightly past the bed frame. Then Phil cut the wood to the proper length and we were good to go!
2. I then placed the wood on the foam, traced, and cut. I ended up doubling the foam just to add extra padding. I then glued the foam to the wood just so that it would be easier to work with while putting the fabric on.
3. Ironed out the fabric so that it would lay flat...4. And then cut out the fabric to fit the headboard.
5. After the fabric was ironed and cut to fit, I wrapped it tightly around the foam/wood headboard and fastened it with upholstery staples. I wrapped the ends like a present and tried to keep everything as tight as possible.
6. In the Remodelista home decor book, it states that they used aluminum z clips attached to the wood and the wall, but we could not find any of those clips in our town. So we ended up using heavy duty industrial strength velcro strips. I placed one on the top and one on the bottom of the headboard, and stuck it the wall. It worked great!
And here's Henry's new headboard...
I am so enjoying putting together my little man's room. It's just been so fun. Still more projects to complete before everything will be done, but I'm pretty happy that the headboard is finally up!
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend....the snow is gently falling here, everyone has colds (which means everyone is having naps..yay!), and I'm going to go make a coffee and enjoy our quiet home.

I must've forgot to put your new blog into my feed cause I've missed all these updates! Love Henry's new headboard - Clint & Cody totally had that fabric on their bedspreads growing up :) Also love the rocking chair & new chevron rug!
